Hyderabad to Ujjain by flight works through Indore (IDR). IndiGo flies non-stop twice a day in about 1 hour 25 minutes. There is no morning non-stop. The first flight lands at 15:45, and the last flight back to Hyderabad leaves Indore at 18:45. From IDR, Mahakaleshwar is about 60 km away, roughly 1β1.5 hours by road.
Landing at Indore airport? Book your airport pickup to Ujjain / Omkareshwar and your stay
Those two times, an afternoon arrival and an early-evening departure, decide the whole Hyderabad itinerary. You lose most of the arrival day to travel and must leave Ujjain by mid-afternoon on the way home. Once you plan around that, the route is easy. What follows is based on the late-September 2026 schedule.

What the afternoon arrival means for darshan
Land at 15:45 and, after bags and the drive, you are in Ujjain around 17:30β18:00. That is enough time to check in, freshen up and join evening darshan or walk through Mahakal Lok when it is lit up. It is not a day for rushing between several temples.
Bhasma Aarti, held before dawn, can fall on your very next morning. Because you have already slept in Ujjain the night before, this route actually lines up well with the aarti. The only rule is not to book the aarti for the arrival day itself, which no Hyderabad flight can reach. Make the aarti booking before you buy the ticket, since slots on popular dates go quickly.
If you take the late-evening flight instead, you land at night. Driving to Ujjain then puts you in bed past midnight, which is a poor set-up for a pre-dawn aarti. In that case, push the aarti to the second morning, or stay near the airport. Our page on hotels near Indore airport explains how that works.
The 18:45 return and why it shortens your last day
The last flight home leaves IDR at 18:45. Working backwards, you should be at the airport comfortably ahead of departure and allow 1β1.5 hours for the drive, more on a Sunday or festival evening. In practice, leave Ujjain by about 16:00. That still gives you a full morning after Bhasma Aarti: breakfast, Kal Bhairav or Harsiddhi, lunch, and a short rest before the car comes.
Two ways to plan a Hyderabad trip
| 1-night “tight” plan | 2-night “relaxed” plan | |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Land 15:45, reach Ujjain by about 18:00, evening darshan, early sleep | Land 15:45, reach Ujjain, evening at Mahakal Lok |
| Day 2 | Bhasma Aarti before dawn, temples in the morning, leave Ujjain about 16:00, fly 18:45 | Bhasma Aarti, rest, other Ujjain temples and Ram Ghat in the evening |
| Day 3 | β | Slow morning, optional drive towards Indore sights, fly 18:45 |
| Suits | Working professionals, couples | Families, senior citizens, first-time visitors |
The one-night plan is achievable but tiring, because the aarti morning starts very early and you fly home the same evening. With elders in the group, we strongly suggest the two-night version.
Using the last day in Indore instead of Ujjain
An 18:45 departure suggests a neat alternative for the final day. Check out of Ujjain in the late morning, drive to Indore, and spend the afternoon in the city before heading to the airport, which is only about 8 km from the city centre. This takes the pressure off the highway drive, because you finish it by early afternoon rather than racing the evening traffic.
In Indore, many pilgrims stop at Khajrana Ganesh temple, see the old Rajwada area, and have a late lunch at Chappan Dukan, the city’s well-known food street. From central Indore to the airport is a short hop compared with the Ujjain drive, so you can relax until about two hours before the flight. For a family carrying bags, this is often less stressful than leaving Ujjain at 16:00 and hoping the highway is clear.
The trade-off is less time in Ujjain on the last morning. If Bhasma Aarti falls on that morning, it is still manageable. Finish the aarti, rest, check out around 11:00 and let the rest of the day unwind in Indore.
Hyderabad to Ujjain flight ticket price: booking advice
With only two IndiGo flights a day and no competing airline on the non-stop, seat supply on this route is limited. We have no verified fare figures to quote. These booking habits tend to help:
- Book about 4β8 weeks ahead for regular travel dates.
- Watch the afternoon flight specifically, since it is the one most pilgrims want and it tends to fill first.
- For Mahashivratri (6 March 2027), Shravan (roughly JulyβAugust) and Simhastha 2028 (27 March to 27 May 2028), book as early as you can and lock the hotel at the same time.
- If both non-stops are full, one-stop itineraries through a busier Indore route such as Delhi or Mumbai are possible, but they add hours. Compare total journey time, not just price.
Getting from Indore airport to Ujjain
From the airport, the drive heads onto the IndoreβUjjain road through Sanwer and into Ujjain, about 60β62 km to the temple. For a 15:45 landing you will usually be driving before the evening rush builds. Uber operates 24/7 at IDR, or you can pre-book a car that waits at arrivals through our Indore airport to Ujjain taxi service. For the route itself, see Indore airport to Ujjain distance.
Practical notes for Hyderabad travellers
- Terminal check. Indore has run two terminals since April 2026, and reports conflict on which flights use which. Read your boarding pass. Our Indore airport guide covers both.
- Lunch before you fly. The 15:45 arrival means eating in Hyderabad or at the airport. You will reach Ujjain close to dinner time.
- Schedule changes. The winter schedule starts in late October. A change of even an hour to the 18:45 departure can alter your last day, so recheck a week before you travel.
- Other routes. The flights hub lists every direct route into Indore, which is handy if some of your group are coming from a different city.
Hyderabad pilgrims often ask whether it is worth adding Omkareshwar. It is about 85 km from Indore airport, but with a mid-afternoon arrival and an early-evening return, it needs its own full day. Add a third night if Omkareshwar is on your list. The drive takes roughly 2β2.5 hours each way, including a ghat section, so it is best started early in the morning and never on your flight day.
