Jaipur to Ujjain by air means IndiGo’s non-stop to Indore (IDR), about 1h 20m–1h 25m, followed by a drive of about 60 km. Two flights run each day on ATR 72 turboprops. The morning flight leaves Jaipur at 06:55 and lands at 08:20, and the last flight home leaves Indore at 19:55. Ujjain has no commercial airport of its own.

For Rajasthan pilgrims, the Jaipur–Indore flight turns what is a long road or rail journey into a morning’s travel. The timings favour a short trip: land early, spend the day in Ujjain, attend Bhasma Aarti the next morning and fly home that evening. This page uses the late-September 2026 schedule. IndiGo revises timings in late October, so confirm yours before paying.

Check live timings and fares on IndiGo’s Jaipur to Indore route page. The 06:55 flight continues from Indore to Nagpur, so it runs to a tight turnaround in Indore. That doesn’t affect you as an arriving passenger, but it is a reminder that ATR schedules are closely linked. A change to one leg can shift another, so check your flight status the evening before.
Why the 08:20 arrival is the one to book
Landing at 08:20 gets you to Ujjain at around 10:00–10:30. The drive is about 60–62 km via the Indore–Ujjain road through Sanwer. You then have the whole day for general darshan, Mahakal Lok and the Shipra ghats, and you sleep in Ujjain ready for the next morning’s aarti. The catch is the early start. You need to be at Jaipur airport well before 06:55, which means leaving home around dawn. For groups with elderly members, the second daily flight may be gentler. You would then keep darshan for the following day.
Bhasma Aarti from Jaipur
No flight reaches Ujjain in time for a same-morning Bhasma Aarti, which starts before dawn. With the 08:20 arrival, the natural plan is to spend Day 1 on general darshan and attend the aarti on Day 2. Book the aarti first, then the flight, because aarti dates can sell out sooner than seats, especially on Mondays and festival days.
A two-day plan built on the ATR timings
| When | Plan |
|---|---|
| Day 1, 06:55 | Fly Jaipur–Indore (6E7427) |
| Day 1, 08:20 | Land at IDR, meet your driver, stop briefly for breakfast |
| Day 1, ~10:30 | Check in at Ujjain; general darshan before the midday crowd |
| Day 1, afternoon | Rest; Mahakal Lok towards evening; Ram Ghat after sunset |
| Day 2, pre-dawn | Bhasma Aarti (pre-booked) |
| Day 2, morning | Kal Bhairav, Harsiddhi, Sandipani Ashram |
| Day 2, ~16:45 | Leave Ujjain for the 19:55 flight home |
This covers the essentials in one night. Add a night if you want Omkareshwar, about 85 km from Indore airport and roughly 2–2.5 hours by road. It needs a separate day. See Indore airport to Omkareshwar.
Flight or road from Jaipur?
Plenty of Rajasthan families still make the Mahakal trip by road or by train, and for a large group sharing one vehicle, the road can be cheaper per head. The flight’s value is in the hours and the energy it saves. You leave Jaipur at dawn and can be at the temple before lunch, instead of spending most of a day on the highway and arriving too tired for darshan. It also makes a one-night trip with Bhasma Aarti realistic, which is hard to do by road without taking extra days off. For couples, small families and senior citizens, the flight usually wins. For a group of ten or more on a budget, compare the combined airfare with a hired vehicle before deciding.
In the winter months, early-morning fog can occasionally affect flights in north India. If your Bhasma Aarti is booked for the morning after you land, a short delay on Day 1 does not matter much. It is one more reason to keep the aarti on Day 2, not Day 1.
Travelling on an ATR: practical points
- Compact cabin bags. Turboprop overhead bins are small. Soft bags fit better than hard trolleys, which may be taken at the aircraft door and put in the hold.
- Liquids and puja items. Put ghee, oil, bottled water and similar items in checked baggage, well sealed.
- Assistance. Request wheelchair help at booking for elderly travellers.
- Indore terminal. Indore has operated two terminals since April 2026, and sources disagree on which one ATR flights use. Read the terminal on your boarding pass and pass it to your driver. More in our Indore airport guide.
Jaipur to Ujjain flight ticket price: when to book
Two small aircraft a day means limited seats, and fares on a route like this tend to rise as the date approaches. We don’t publish a fare because we have no verified figure that stays accurate. Use the booking window instead:
| Travel period | Suggested booking window (typical, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Ordinary dates | About 4–6 weeks ahead |
| Diwali, summer holidays, long weekends | 6–8 weeks ahead |
| Mahashivratri (6 March 2027) and Shravan Mondays | As soon as your dates are firm |
| Simhastha 2028 (27 March – 27 May 2028) | Months ahead, with the hotel booked at the same time |
If both non-stops are full, Delhi has around ten daily flights into Indore, including a 06:25 arrival, and is the most flexible fallback for Rajasthan travellers. See the Delhi to Ujjain flight page and the flights hub.
The last mile: IDR to Mahakaleshwar
A morning arrival is the easiest time to make this drive. Traffic is manageable and you reach Ujjain before the afternoon heat. Uber operates at IDR 24/7. If you’d rather have a driver waiting with a name board, book through our Indore airport to Ujjain taxi page. For the road itself, see Indore airport to Ujjain distance.
Flying home on the 19:55
Leave Ujjain around 16:45 on a normal day, earlier on Sundays and festival evenings. That leaves time for the drive and airport formalities without hurrying. The flight lands in Jaipur mid-evening, so onward travel home is straightforward. If you arrive at Indore early and have eligible card access, the departures lounge is airside after security. Details are on our Indore airport lounge page.
Travelling from elsewhere in Rajasthan
Pilgrims from Ajmer, Sikar, Tonk and nearby districts often come to Jaipur for this flight. Because the flight leaves at 06:55, anyone travelling in from outside Jaipur should stay in the city the night before. A pre-dawn road journey to catch an early flight leaves no margin. Coming back, the evening arrival in Jaipur usually leaves time to get home the same night.
